You encouraged the child’s dreams.
You encouraged her to accept Jesus as Saviour.
The gospel was shared with caregiver.
Caregiver accepted Christ.
When Deborah grows up, she wants to advocate for children in need and raise a family of her own.
And with that, my time as Deborah’s sponsor came to a close. My connection with this young woman was not just in paper and ink; it was flesh and blood. I had looked into her eyes, wrapped my arms around her, heard her voice. My feet had touched the red dirt of Deborah’s village, my mouth had tasted the community’s dishes.
But now, I release her. I send Deborah out to do what God has created her to do and pray that my time as her sponsor left a mark on her. I hope she remembers me when she thinks about women of strength and courage. I hope the letters I wrote to her are kept and re-read. I hope that one day, we will meet again.
