Fear

Fear’s refrain is one of lack.

Not enough.
Not enough.
Not enough.

It can sound responsible.
It can sound fiscally wise.
But isn’t fear just an excuse to act like Jesus’ words don’t matter?

Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you.

What happened to that?

I have lived in the not enough category for the majority of my adult life.
I have lived there out of obedience to His call.
I believed that if He called me to it, He would provide for all my needs.
Sure, there wasn’t always excess, but there was always enough.

Daily bread is what He told us to pray for.
Remember that?

There is this thing called faith that rebukes fear’s refrain.
Fear, at its core, whispers, “He is not enough.”
When I believe that, it puts the onus on me to strategize, reorganize and scheme to make sure
MY NEEDS GET MET.

And in modern day America, the definition of “needs” is very loose.
In modern day America’s church, we listen to fear’s lullaby and stop believing that the One who has power to save our souls has the power to help us pay our bills.

This is a nightmare.
Someone wake us up.
