Based in the desert of West Texas, Amara Bratcher is a full-time student minister who also writes, takes pictures and volunteers with at-risk children. She has written a book entitled The Bridge That Love Built for adopted kids who have gaps in the early years of their lives. She likes her coffee French Pressed and wears her hair curly 365 days a year.

"Can I ask you a question?"

When someone opens a conversation with that, I know where it’s headed.

Always.

I was at the dentist, getting my teeth cleaned, when my hygienist leaned over and asked it, then followed with, “Do you want to get married?”
Her tone was gentle and kind, her face curious.

Cavities had been my concern walking in.

Then there was the message I received on Instagram, a girl I had met years ago who asked and then followed it up with,
”You’re single, aren’t you?”

It is the gift that no one wants.
It is a status most try to escape quickly.
I have friends who have been married and divorced, then married and divorced again.

I didn’t intend on being the poster girl.
But I am not ashamed to be fully inhibiting it - my singleness.

And so, I have promised to write about it. I’ll share some of the hard, awkward parts of it, and also the encouragement and joy I have found in it.

If you are a single girl, I am writing for you and you can sign up for the newsletter at the bottom of the blog.

I’ll see you in your inbox soon!
