one in twelve

Morning meditation from Mark 14:12-72

Amazing odds!
He was chosen - out of the throngs, out of the devotees, out of the faithful band of followers - to be in the inner circle.

He was one of The Twelve.
He had a front seat to all the teaching, healing, living.
He saw the Son of God on a daily basis and was counted among those closest to Him.

And yet, in the darkest moment, the scene where it all changes -
betrayal and death come by way of a kiss
from one of The Twelve.

Closest proximity.
Greatest intimacy.

“One of you will betray Me,” and He wanted to be clear - it wasn't one of the throngs, one of the devotees, one of the faithful band of followers.
It was, in fact, heartbreaking odds that this backstab would be dealt by one of The Twelve.
