Jesus, Women, and Feet
I’ve had a thought.
Jesus, women and feet.
Jesus told Mary that she had a place of belonging at His feet. Proximity.
Jesus was honored by another Mary’s washing of His feet with her hair. Intimacy.
Jesus felt the power leave His body as a woman of great faith reached in close to His feet and touched the hem of His garment. Humility.
There is a real power in these accounts. Far from jockeying for position or status, these women got it.
They. Got. It.
It was always about Jesus to them. To be near Him. To learn from Him, to worship Him, to touch Him.
In a society where they didn’t count, they found significance where only servants went - feet.
Isn’t that the truth of the upside down Kingdom Jesus came to inaugurate? Isn’t that the secret right there? The least will become the greatest.
The least have chosen what will not be taken away from them.
The least have done something that will be spoken about wherever the gospel is shared.
The least have received healing in the innermost part, cured where only “incurable” was known before.
These women show us the way.
